Since the East African nation’s independence from Britain in 1963, life on the island, teeming with exotic flora and fauna has remained largely that of a fishing village with donkey-alley’s instead of roads and relying on generator-powered grid for its electricity needs. Kenya launched the construction of a massive port, railway and refinery on March 2 in a project it bills as the biggest ever in an African nation.
